What is a domain?

A domain name is an electronic address for a computer network. If there is a webpage you want to reach, you will get to it by typing the domain name into your computer. When creating a website, most people will choose a domain name that reflects the subject matter of the site.

How do I check if my domain is available?

To check if a .co.za domain is available:

To check if a .com domain is available:

If there is another type of domain you want to know is available we will be able to check for you - simply email host@blinkmarketing.co.za.

How do I order a domain?

Domains can either be ordered via the online Order Form or by emailing host@blinkmarketing.co.za. In order for us to host your domain (website & email addresses) you will need to choose from one of our available Hosting Packages. It is also a good idea to see if your domain is available to purchase.

What is konsoleH?

konsoleH is konsoleH's proprietary control panel, empowering customers with greater control and easy access to a wide range of tools and systems to manage their hosting environment. Functions include:

  • Domain details (Web Hosting) - An overview of your domain information and hosting quota usage.
  • Statistics and Reports - Monitor your disk and traffic usage as well as all activity to and from your website.
  • Mail - Manage all your email accounts associated to your domain and view your mail logs.
  • Traffic (TruServ) - View traffic reports and setup traffic notifications for your server
  • Database - Setup and configure MySQL databases

How do I create an email address or email alias for my domain?

Create a personalised email account (mailbox) or alias via konsoleH:

  1. Browse to konsoleH (https://login.konsoleh.co.za)
  2. Enter your Client number and Management password
  3. Select or search for the required domain name in the ‘Hosting Services’ tab
  4. Click ‘Mail’ from the left-hand menu
  5. Click ‘Manage Accounts’ under Mail
  6. The main window is where all your active email accounts and aliases will be displayed
  7. Click ‘New Mailbox’ to create a new mail account or ‘New Mail Alias’ to create a new email alias
  8. Enter the required information and refer to the [Help] if you require assistance.
  9. Enter Fwd (Optional when creating a Mailbox, compulsory when creating an alias: Specify an address to which all email destined for this mailbox must be forwarded)
  10. Click ‘Add

Now that the email account is created on the server, you need to configure your email program or client (eg. MS Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird) to connect to the server to send and receive your email. Guides can be found by visiting HOSTIN > EMAIL SETUP GUIDES in the menu bar.

How can I whitelist or blacklist an email address?

All incoming mail on the konsoleH network is scanned by a spam filter. Should you unconditionally wish to accept all emails from a particular address or domain and bypass the spam filter, then you should whitelist the address.

It is also possible to blacklist an email address, which will result in the mail being rejected before it gets to your mailbox and it will be permanently deleted.

Should there be a scenario where an email address is both whitelisted and blacklisted, whitelisting will take precedence and the email will therefore be delivered to your inbox.

Blacklisting or Whitelisting an email address or domain:

  1. Browse to konsoleH (https://login.konsoleh.co.za)
  2. Login with your Client number and Management password
  3. Select or search for a domain name in the ‘Hosting Service’ tab
  4. Select ‘Mail’ from the left-hand menu
  5. Select the ‘Black/Whitelist’ under Mail
  6. Click on the ‘Whitelist’ or ‘Blacklist’ button at the top of the window
  7. Enter the email address (or multiple comma-separated addresses) in the ‘Address’ field and Click ‘Add’.
  8. To remove addresses from the Blacklist/Whitelist, tick the checkbox next to the entry and select ‘Delete’ from the top menu

Should you wish to whitelist/blacklist a whole domain, wildcards are used eg. *@domain.co.za or @domain.co.za will whitelist/blacklist all addresses on the domain.co.za domain.

Whitelisting, blacklisting and spam filtering occurs after ‘mail forwarding’. The destination address of the forwarded mail would need to handle any mail filtering requirements.

How do I change or reset Email passwords?

It is good practice to change your email passwords every 30 to 60 days to prevent unauthorised access to your information.

To reset or change your email password via konsoleH follow these steps:

  1. Browse to konsoleH (https://login.konsoleh.co.za)
  2. Log in with your Customer number or email address and Management password
  3. Select or search for the applicable domain on which the email address resides (eg your-domain.com)
  4. Select ‘Mail’ in the left-hand menu
  5. Select ‘Manage Accounts
  6. Select ‘Edit’ next to the applicable mailbox.
  7. Enter your new password (ensure you use a strong password).
  8. Confirm your new password.
  9. Click on ‘Update

It is also possible for you to change individual email password via the webmail interface.

If you also make use of an email program to access your email, it is important that you update the email program with your new password.

Please note: konsoleH will only accept strong passwords. To ensure your password is strong make sure you adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Use both upper and lower case letters.
  • Incorporate numbers or punctuation marks.
  • Ensure it is at least 8 characters long.
  • Do not use your username, email address or domain names associated with your profile.
  • Do not use your personal information, such as name, phone number, ID number, special dates, address or names of anyone you know.
  • Use different passwords for your various hosting services.
  • Use a word or phrase you can remember easily, but would be very difficult for anyone else to guess.

How do I keep track of my website’s traffic usage?

Access your Traffic statistics via konsoleH:

  1. Browse to konsoleH (https://login.konsoleh.co.za)
  2. Login with your Client number and Management password
  3. Select or search for a domain name in the ‘Hosting Services’ tab
  4. Click ‘Statistics & Reports’
  5. Select ‘AWStats’

What is AWStats and how does it work?

AWStats is an advanced web traffic analysis tools that Blink makes available for you to analyse your website traffic. The statistical analysis is compiled every night to ensure you have an updated analysis of your website traffic the following day. End-of-month snapshots are kept and are accessible from a dropdown box selection.

When analysing your site traffic, you need to be careful not to confuse ‘hits’ and ‘unique visitors’. For additional information, please view the AWStats glossary of terms page at: http://awstats.sourceforge.net/docs/awstats_glossary.html

With AWStats you can see what countries your visitors are coming from, what type of browser they have and even the operating system on their computer. Another handy feature is being able to see how many people are finding your website - if they were referred by a search engine, AWStats will show by which search engine it was found as well as the key words they entered to find your site.
